“My life’s just one big rollercoaster of emotions…and I’m left wondering why.” The words of one woman. The Imam who abused her as a child in the 1980s was convicted last month of sexually abusing her and one other young girl.

But she says she feels angry as after the conviction, Hifiz Rahman who is 57, absconded from the UK and police believe he boarded a flight to Bangladesh.

Nabila (not her real name) wrote a book in 2012 about what happened to her, and set up a problem page online for others to contact her for support and advice.

In this interview she speaks to 鶹ҳ reporter Ruchi Tandon about why she decided to come forward after so many years, and her feelings post the trial….

*This interview was first broadcast on Sunday October 30th. At the time West Midlands police issued this statement:

Hifiz Rahman absconded from the UK on Saturday 8 October when it is believed he boarded a flight to Bangladesh. We are making urgent enquiries to try and arrange his return.
He claimed to be too ill to attend his court hearing on Thursday 6 and Friday 7 October at Wolverhampton Crown Court, where he was convicted in his absence of sexually assaulting two girls.
The court did not issue any warrant for Mr Rahman to be arrested or remanded following the guilty verdict and he was due to be summonsed for sentencing this week.
Officers visited him at home that evening to ensure he was complying with the previously imposed bail conditions of residing at the specified address, which he was.
An ‘all ports warning’ information report was placed onto the Police National Computer advising that officers should be notified if he made any attempt to try and leave the country.
