Swayne: Government should threaten list of new peers
Asked how the government should ensure that the House of Lords doesn't block its Brexit plans, Conservative MP Sir Desmond Swayne told the Westminster Hour that it should threaten appointing new peers who are supportive of its agenda.
"The mere threat of that has led to a backing down," said Sir Desmond of past clashes between governments and the Upper House. "I hope that someone in Number 10 is making a very long list [of peers] and is prepared to leak it."
