How the Southern Rail strike forced a commuter to quit his job
A Southern Rail passenger based just outside Eastbourne has told 5 live he was forced to quit his job because of the duration of his commute. It was taking Philp Betts four hours each way to get to work in London, almost double the amount of time it would normally take.
He told 5 live Drive that his commute had been 鈥渞idiculously stressful.鈥
鈥淚n the end I had to quit my job and look for work locally.鈥
The chaotic commute is the result of the long-running industrial dispute between Southern Rail and rail unions over driver-only trains and the role of conductors, with Southern warning passengers not to travel at all tomorrow (Tuesday, 13th December).
