Trump and May aren't 'ideological soulmates'
UK-US relations won't "quite be the meeting of minds that we had before" under the Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan administrations, says Conservative MP John Whittingdale.
Mr Whittingdale was commenting on the future of the UK's relationship with America in light of Theresa May's upcoming meeting with Donald Trump, the first foreign leader to do so after his presidential inauguration.
Speaking as a former Political Secretary to Margaret Thatcher, Mr Whittingdale said that although the visit showed the "special relationship is still recognised on both sides", he didn't think that a similar Thatcher- Reagan relationship would be rekindled as Trump and May aren't "ideological soulmates"
