Shipmate Derrick Smith's Award
Think back to where you were at the age of 18.
You may have been just starting out in the world of work, maybe you were still in school, or possibly you were exploring the globe. Well for many young men in 1943, they were fighting in the second world war, risking their lives on the beaches of Normandy. You can hardly imagine the horror and fear involved.
More than 70 years later, 5 local men have been honoured for their service, on behalf of the French Government.
One of those honoured was Shipmate Derrick Smith, we spoke to Derrick last week and he said he would come back - and he did. Ben Jackson spoke with him.
