Burns: Focus now moves onto who will be the next Speaker
Conservative MP Conor Burns said the "current controversy" over the Speaker's comments on Donald Trump in the House of Commons has moved the focus onto "who the next Speaker will be".
Mr Burns told the Westminster Hour that the Speaker should have made his views on the US President "known privately" as "there was no need for the grandstanding".
He said he thought it was "important that the election happens in this Parliament", hoping that "the current controversy will pass" so that John Bercow would be able to "step aside as he originally said within the next year or 18 months."
