What has upset the Skegness Jolly Fisherman?

He's known as the Jolly Fisherman, a bouncing red faced figure who's been the mascot for the seaside town of Skegness since 1908. He originally appeared alongside the slogan "Skegness is so bracing".

But now, much to the displeasure of some locals, he's had a makeover on the front cover of the pro-remain publication The New European. Standing under the headline "Skegness is so Brexit", he's making two rude hand gestures and is wearing a jumper bearing the words "go away".

The area voted overwhelmingly to leave the EU in last year's referendum. The editor Matt Kelly says the cover is merely "satire" but the Mayor of Skegness Dick Edginton says some local people were hurt and offended that their mascot has been used for "political purposes".
