Can prison inspire creativity?

Artist Htein Lin spent four years hiding in the forest from the Burmese military junta whilst a student activist and was later held as a political prisoner for almost seven years. In prison, Htein continued to create with whatever materials he could find. He used cigarette lighters as paint rollers and prison uniforms as canvasses. Just three years after his release he performed at the Venice Biennale and has since gone on to become one of Myanmar鈥檚 foremost artists.
