New research suggests only one in five people think they鈥檙e living in their dream home. That鈥檚 according to figures from Halifax Insurance on home improvements in the U.K. The insurer says planning applications for basements and roof conversions have gone up by nearly a third in the last five years. Melanie Abbott talks to Melanie Backe-Hansen, a historian and author who has looked at our changing attitudes to our homes.
