An exclusive track from the Queen of Sufi music
Abida Parveen is one of the world's foremost composers and performers of Sufi music (the devotional music of Sufism, the ancient tradition of Islamic mysticism). Yeh achchi parda dari hai ("No way to guard a secret") is Parveen's own setting of a poem by Hazarat Bedam Shah Warsi, recorded exclusively for Radio 3 in her Islamabad home.
She talks to Lopa Kothari in Music in Peril, a Radio 3 documentary about the threats posed to Sufi qawwali music by Islamist extremists. Hear more by clicking through to the full episode.
