In 2015 Dave was cycling to work in North London on a route he had cycled hundreds of times, when a van turned behind a lorry and hit him. The next thing he remembers was being under the van with its wheel on his chest. Technically he died at this point. Several people - including passing British Transport police officers lifted the van off him and started CPR. The London Air Ambulance team then arrived and took him to hospital.
During his recovery he decided he wanted to give back to the Air Ambulance and started as a volunteer before working with the fundraising team, which is where he met Amy who works there as 'Head of Individual Giving'. She and Dave have become friends but she had never asked him to tell her the story of his accident – they used their time recording the Listening Project to do that. During this extract, Dave shares some of the positive outcomes from the incident.
