Flood Tax for Surrey?

Households in Surrey could be paying a flood tax of 拢12-13 a year.
The county council could seek government approval for a new levy or surcharge, to help pay for new flood defences for the Surrey stretch of the Thames.
A report warns at least 30,000 properties in 174 areas remain at risk of flooding but says the council cannot afford a 拢100m contribution requested by the Environment Agency.
Deborah Dunn-Walters, who was flooded out of her home at Laleham Reach, Surrey, says the area needs alleviation measures and she believes the people of Surrey would support the tax.
