Puppeteers from the company behind War Horse, Gyre and Gimble, reveal their techniques in rehearsal for their latest production. Based on a Victor Hugo novel, the show is called The Grinning Man and tells the story of a disfigured hero, Grinpayne, who is employed as a fairground freak and falls in love with a sightless girl called Dea.

The Grinning Man runs at Trafalgar Studios in London until 17 February 2018.
