The preliminary results of an inquiry launched into the risks of living in a tower block in the wake of the Grenfell fire were published on Monday. Author Dame Judith Hackitt said confusing building regulations and a "competence" issue within the profession were problematic.

On the Daily Politics, Local Government Association chairman Gary Porter, said there had been additional regulations and guidance, with no simplifications for councils, and "this has really been a problem in store since 2006".

He said: "We were clear from the test results coming in, there were systemic failure across the country. That can't be down to one or two individuals who are not competent. That must be that the system was wrong."

Labour MP Stephen Kinnock and Conservative MP Suella Fernandes were asked about the inquiry findings.
