1918 - the year that some British women were given the right to vote - was also the year that women were allowed to become MPs. The first woman to be elected was Constance Markeievicz of Sinn Fein - in 1919 Nancy Astor became the first woman to take up a seat in the House of Commons. As of the last election a third of MPs are women - a record high. This podcast looks at the role of women in British politics in the last 100 years.
