Folic acid should be added to flour in England

There have been fresh calls in the Lords for the government to fortify flour with folic acid to help protect babies from common birth defects.

The idea of mandatory fortification has already been backed by health ministers in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, but not in England.

Peers were told that the impact of adding folic acid to flour would now be reviewed.
