Elton John: "I wish people would write better songs"
Sir Elton John has told 5 live that he wishes some modern artists would "write better songs".
Promoting his new album, Revamp, which features versions of some of his biggest hits by the likes of Lady Gaga, Ed Sheeran and Pink, Sir Elton told Nihal Arthanayake that he still has great passion for new music - and loves working with talented new acts.
He also praised Stormzy and Kendrick Lamar, but he warned that there was a danger of the pop industry losing the skill of songwriting; "When you listen to even the cheesiest songs from the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s – they are songs. There are a lot of songs in the charts I can’t sing, it’s just a beat."
