Digital Minister warns social media companies
The Government's Digital Minister has warned social media companies that "time is running out" to clamp down on criminality and abuse. Margot James told The Westminster Hour's Carolyn Quinn that legislation could happen if changes are not made voluntarily. Speaking after a meeting with Facebook executives at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Ms James also called on social platforms to show "far greater respect" for people's data and said: "Many companies in fact want to co-operate so the big stick is there for when it鈥檚 needed, but we don鈥檛 anticipate it being needed on a frequent basis."
