Is trying to be an ethical consumer ever realistic?

Is taking the time to buy recyclable goods really just playing ethical deckchairs on a "giant polluting unequal Titanic", ponders Colm O'Regan.

The comedian took a tongue-in-cheek look at how his buying of cheap clothing, while being a red-meat consumer and a parent was undoing any potential good he hoped he was achieving.

His sketch on the morals of ethical consumption was part of In the Balance's look at the morals of plastic packaging, perfumes tested on animals, and child labour responsible for jeans on sale in the shops.
