Extract DNA With Vodka | Real Science
How do you extract DNA with Vodka? Zara's here with a trick that's sure to impress all your friends. First, freeze and defrost strawberries. Freezing will cause ice crystals to form and burst open the strawberry cells. Put some of the strawberries in a zip back with a good lug of mango juice.
The mango juice contains an enzyme which breaks down proteins, give it a good squish then sieve away all the pulp. Half fill a shot glass then carefully pour vodka down the side of the glass. The cloudy layer in the drink is DNA, the genetic blueprint for all living things. Happy DNA making :)
