Bewdley Festival highlights: Eddi Reader

Growing up in Glasgow and Irvine, it was in those towns that she first learned to use music as a vehicle for communicating with others whilst busking and performing at the local folk clubs.
听
In the early 1980s, Eddi鈥檚 band Fairground Attraction reached a huge audience when the single 鈥楶erfect鈥� and parent album 鈥楩irst of a Million Kisses鈥� both hit number one in the charts.
听

Highlights: 10cc at Malvern Theatres

Testament to 10cc鈥檚 ongoing appeal, the band can count an array of fellow artists 鈥� from Chrissie Hynde and Axl Rose to The Feeling鈥檚 Dan Gillespie and Sophie Ellis Bextor 鈥� among their many millions of fans.
听
With eleven Top 10 hits, including three No 1s 鈥� Rubber Bullets, I鈥檓 Not In Love and Dreadlock Holiday 鈥� it鈥檚 no surprise the band has sold 15 million albums in the UK alone.
听
Co-founder Graham Gouldman, who leads the current line-up, puts 10cc鈥檚 longevity down to the quality and individuality of the songs: "They don鈥檛 seem to date 鈥� they鈥檙e original. We never followed any trend, we simple wrote for our own pleasure. The fact that the songs are being played as often on the radio today as they ever were."

Music workshops

Beat It Percussion was awarded the money in June and their new Gentle Beat drumming workshops are designed to inspire people in the later stages of life.
听
Lynn Kay is their CEO and explains how it works: "I use rhythm and music as a way of communicating with people. It's working with those people who are hard to reach because of advanced dementia or advanced years. So it's not entertainment and it's not a music lesson. It's to get people out of themselves, really, to form a group and feel included.
听
"It reminds us that the person's still in there. It's still gran, mum or Mrs Brown - even if you only catch a little glimmer of the 'old' person."
听

The event is taking place at Lyde Court and tells the familiar tale in a much more "accessible" way.

Taking place in multiple venues across the city, from pubs, clubs, restaurants and cafes to historic buildings, river cruisers, record shops, on the streets and even in breweries, the festival is absolutely free to attend with hundreds of gigs to choose from from some of the best, new and emerging artists in the UK.
听
Each year the festival raises money for a chosen local charity. This year the Worcestershire Association of Carers will receive all the money dropped into buckets at the festival's venues across the weekend.
听

Not only is this a fantastic opportunity for the musicians we鈥檝e selected (who didn鈥檛 even know they were being considered for this incredible gig!), but also a chance for Worcester to see the amazing talent we have right here on our doorstep. As always, we also hope this will also inspire other musicians to share their music with us.
听
The event, this year, moves from the Guildhall to the newly-revamped Cathedral Square under the statue of Sir Edward Elgar. The recording and switch-on takes place on Thursday, 22 November with these festive sessions being broadcast throughout December.
