    In Another Time

Live in NYC

A busker from Worcester performed a number of gigs in New York, this week, after a video of her performing with Seal was spotted by Billy Joel's former bassist.
Ìý
25-year-old Poppy WS secured the gig in Greenwich Village after Larry Russell came across her videos online.
Ìý
Sitting in a cafe in NYC reflecting on her first US performance, Poppy told us what it was like to perform in the Big Apple.

Dodgy on tour

Worcestershire britpop band Dodgy have released a brand new version of an old top 20 hit to raise money for rough sleepers.
Ìý
'Staying Out for The Summer' has been re-recorded and all the money raised from it will go towards Crisis, the national charity for homeless people.Ìý
Ìý
It's been revealed that the number of rough sleepers in Worcester has doubled in the last 12 months.
Ìý
That's despite official figures that show a slight fall in the number of homeless people nationally, for the first time since 2010.
Ìý
The band has also made a new video to promote the song, which was a big summer hit in both 1994 and 1995.

Artist of the Week

Ledbury's India Parkman was born in Singapore, to a Chinese-Indian mother and British father, before moving to the UK at the age of three.
Ìý
She started learning piano just 12 months later. She says "being a poor sight-reader, I learnt all my set pieces by heart and began to recreate songs I'd heard on the radio or TV by ear."
Ìý
Soon she was experimenting with chord progressions and melodies and had written her first song.
Ìý
Her influences include Coldplay, Adele and Lana Del Rey discovered a love for A capella at university and it's her dream to write, and perhaps produce, for a living.
Ìý
India says her latest track is about speaking up for your feelings: "Suicide is one of the biggest killers of our generation - it’s something that needs to be addressed.ÌýFor many, it may feel like the only way out.ÌýWe need to keep reminding each other that it’s OK to not be OK all the time, that we are allowed to feel sad, and that our feelings are valid."

New band for Jim Capaldi's brother

The Evesham musician, Phil Capaldi - brother of the late Jim Capaldi, has formed a new band that played in Worcester this week.
Ìý
This was the first time The Newgrass Cutters have performed a local gig, having toured extensively throughout the UK.
Ìý
Phil joined his brother as a backing vocalist and percussionist on the hit record 'Love Hurts' and the follow up 'It's All Up To You'.
Ìý
They also toured together and appeared on the 'Old Grey Whistle Test' on may occasions.
Ìý
Collectively, members of The Newgrass Cutters have worked with George Harrison, Deep Purple, Steve Winwood, Status Quo and Mark Knofler.

Worcester Young Voices

For more than 25 years, Carol Green’s mission has been to get hundreds of people across Worcestershire experiencing the benefits of singing - and working together, in groups.
Ìý
Her work’s even taken her as far as Hungary and Canada - after she was awarded a Churchill Fellowship for her work in music education.
Ìý
More recently, her focus has turned to developing a community of confident young performers in Worcester.
Ìý
Carol grew sick of seeing people turned away because of groups only wanting to take on ready-made musicians who had already had signing lessons.
Ìý
So, she took on leadership of Worcester Young Voices, where any youngster is welcome.
