The so-called Islamic State's caliphate in Syria and Iraq has been been declared over but this hasn't ended fears about the threat they might still pose in the region. US officials believe the extremist group may have between 15,000 to 20,000 armed fighters in sleeper cells. IS were chased out of the Iraqi city of Mosul in December 2017. Newsday's Shaimaa Khalil travelled there last year and has gone back to find a population increasingly frustrated at the slow rebuilding process.
