If You'd Said
Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Music Day
Ìý
Across Herefordshire & Worcestershire there are many groups, choirs and workshops that use the special connection that many of us have with music to help those affected with dementia and alzheimer's.
Ìý
The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú has committed to bring music to everyone living with dementia by 2020, working with all major groups in this field.
Ìý
More than 100 organisations are involved so far in this unprecedented collaboration.
Ìý
This week we look at some of the incredible work that is going on locally.
Upton Sunshine Festival
Ìý
There were also performances from The Osmonds, S Club 7, Judge Jules and Dave Pearce.
Ìý
Because we chatted to so many performers - getting their top tips for new musicians - we've been spreading out our coverage across this last month!
Upton Sunshine Highlights: Showaddywaddy
Ìý
The band, which spent a total of 209 weeks on the UK Singles Chart, have had 10 Top Ten singles (including one number one).
Ìý
They've now made more than 300 television appearances, which included their own Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú special, with many of their songs being put out by the Malvern-based Cherry Red Records (the team behind the gigs at the Winter Gardens).
Upton Sunshine Highlights: Curiosity Killed The Cat
Upton Sunshine Highlights: Claire Sweeney
Ìý
Claire rose to prominence as Lindsay Corkhill in Channel 4’s Brookside, and since then has enjoyed a hugely successful career on both stage and screen.
Ìý
She has starred in television dramas such as Clocking Off and Merseybeat and received critical acclaim for her roles in West End musicals Chicago and Guys & Dolls alongside Patrick Swayze.
Ìý
As a TV presenter Claire has hosted prime time shows Here Comes the Sun and Challenge of a Lifetime, four series of 60 Minute Makeover and made regular appearances on shows such as Loose Women, This Morning and Lorraine, to name a few.
Ìý
She was in the original series of both Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú1’s Strictly Come Dancing and Channel 4’s Celebrity Big Brother, in which she came second.
Kidderminster gigs
Ìý
The events are being put together by singer Annette Gregory, who recently moved to the area and was so put out that there wasn't a local jazz club - she decided organise one herself!
Ìý
The club will now take place on the first Thursday of every month and will include a popular 'theme' to make it as accessible as possible to jazz and non-jazz fans alike.
Features
- In the gig guide: Fairport Convention and Andy Fairweather Low play in our area this week.
- In the news: The first line-up announcement for Hay Winter Weekend includes musician Cerys Matthews.
Malvern Winter Gardens
Ìý
From the early '60s, for a period of around 30 years, Malvern Winter Gardens rocked to the sounds of bands such The Jam, The Kinks, The Who, Pink Floyd, Motorhead, Hawkwind and many more, some of whom were in their infancy at the time.
Ìý
Local charity Rock Around the Hills created an interactive exhibition, thanks to a £60,000 grant, celebrating the story of rock, punk and progressive rock at the Winter Gardens from 1961 to 1990.
Ìý
The display features more than 400 posters, tickets, flyers and fanzines, as well as recorded memories from audience members, musicians and promoters who were all part of the scene.
Ìý
Having already been at Malvern Library and the Hive in Worcester, the exhibition has now moved to the airwaves - and we're broadcasting some of those memories every Sunday, from 6pm, here on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Hereford & Worcester.
Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Music Introducing in Bromyard
Ìý
If you've only ever driven through the town before, the Conquest is on what we like to call 'Nozstock Street!'.
Ìý
The theatre has now been hosting events at its Tenbury Road location for a quarter of a century - but they'd been campaigning for a facility like this since the '50s, according to the records book.
Ìý
Originally, events had been held in an 'old tin hut' which had been built in 1919 by the Royal British Legion.ÌýBut eventually they decided an all-singing, all-dancing venue was what the town needed.
Ìý
We'd love to see you on the 24th - simply turn up, there's no need to book.
