Former Royals boss Jose Gomes explained in March why he brought Mark Bowen in.

Now the Reading manager, Bowen was initially brought in by his predecessor as a technical consultant back in March.

"He has a great experience in English football," Gomes told Tim Dellor following the appointment. "I think he will be a good extra help in this month and a half, it will be a good help.

"He wants to watch and to see what happens with us, because it's one more opinion.

"It's always important to have these footballer eyes near us.

"It's important for me to collect more data, and we needed this extra help, which we should [have] with his profile, so everybody's happy."
