NHS Doctors and nurses fighting coronavirus in hospitals have been keeping detailed diaries of their experiences since the UK went into lockdown in March. Here, Rupert Pearse, a consultant in the intensive care unit at Royal London Hospital and Larissa Thorne, an intensive care nurse at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, share their hopes and fears as they battle to save the lives of those affected by the virus. As the virus takes its deadly grip they reveal their frustrations and the daily battles and heartbreaking decisions they're forced to make. Larissa, who lives in Aylesbury with her husband and two young children tells File on 4: 'It feels like I'm not going to be able to cope with this. It feels like I can't give my patients what they should be having, but I do. Because you look after somebody the way that your parents should be looked after.' Rupert says the NHS will be dealing with the Covid-19 outbreak for at least the next six months. 'So much has changed in order to win this fight. It is hard to imagine that things will ever be quite the same again. The good news is, we鈥檝e coped, but only just. In fact at one point it was very close. And as NHS staff I think we鈥檙e just a little bit broken.'
