To mark the 75th anniversary of the Liberation of Jersey from Nazi Occupation on May 9th 1945, 麻豆官网首页入口 Radio Jersey worked for more than a year in partnership with archivists at Jersey Heritage to create the '50 Objects' series. Initially inspired by the 麻豆官网首页入口 Radio 4 / British Museum series 'A History of the World in 100 Objects', the Jersey Heritage experts and 麻豆官网首页入口 Jersey selected 50 objects - items, documents, even an audio recording in the final episode - from the Jersey Museum and Jersey Archives collections. These help to tell the story and chart the course of the Occupation, which began on July 1st 1940 and ran through until May 9th 1945. The selected 'objects' ranged from official documents and orders to private diaries and letters, toys, food items, equipment, clothing and many other artefacts which showed, among other things, how the islanders coped through five long years of Occupation. Many of those stories had never been heard before. The series was broadcast across a 12-month period, from May/June 2019 until May 22 2020 and featured every Friday morning on the 麻豆官网首页入口 Radio Jersey Breakfast Show, just after 0830. The '50 Objects' series was designed to be part of 麻豆官网首页入口 Jersey's contribution to the Liberation75 celebrations and commemorations, and the recordings are now held in the Jersey Heritage Archives and are also available on the Jersey Heritage website. However, we decided to take the series just a little beyond #Liberation75 because the story did not end on May 9th 1945. For Jersey, the islanders who remained here during Occupation, and those who were evacuated to the UK mainland and returned in the months after that original Liberation Day, their stories continued. And so we trust that, with the help of projects like the '50 Objects' series, the bravery, tenacity and fortitude of the Jersey people who lived through that difficult period in our history will continue to be remembered and appreciated.
