If you’ve ever questioned why the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Proms exist, the answer is to promote music of the quality of Lamia. First performed in the 1919 season, Henry Wood was so impressed he performed it again 3 days later. The subject is the heroine of Keats’ famous poem; the music shows an appreciation of Debussy’s orchestration, all wrapped up in a very English sound world.
