Stravinsky wrote his quirky 'Concertino', a work in one movement, as a piece with a 'definitely concertante part for the first violin.' The violin part is dazzling and brilliant throughout. The Concertino is incredibly exciting, with many references to Russian folk music, jagged rhythms, unusual harmonies, and a rhythmic intensity. Stravinsky later expanded the original work for string quartet, reorchestrating the Concertino for 12 orchestral instruments.
