Leh谩r wrote some of the most frivolous music to come from Vienna. However, 'Fieber' (or 'Fever') - written in 1915 - shows his serious side. It's a work for tenor and orchestra and tells of a wounded soldier who - in a feverish dream - imagines himself still amongst his fighting comrades. Leh谩r mixes waltz tunes as a form of hallucination and the sombre ending hints at the soldier's death. Leh谩r's brother was badly wounded in the early months of WW1.
