In contrast to many of the concertos of his day Ravel, in his own words, wrote his concerto to simply entertain, 'clearly highlighting the soloist's virtuosity without seeking to show profundity.' This is immediately apparent through the exciting jazz and folk music influences, which are a constant feature of this brillaintly punchy concerto.
