A strike is under way in Poland by those opposed to a court ruling that introduced a near-total ban on abortion in the mainly Catholic country. Activist and lawyer Marta Gorczynska explains that there are concerns that recent justice reforms were not constitutional, and so, the constitutional legality of the recent ruling should be called into question. She says the new ruling will necessitate even more women needing to travel outside Poland to obtain abortions or engage in unsafe "home remedies".

"98 percent of all legal abortions [last year] were performed owing to fetal abnormalities which means that right now, when this reason is excluded, there will be a near-total ban on abortions in Poland."
