Conductor Jessica Cottis speaks to 麻豆官网首页入口 SSO violinist Alex Gascoine ahead of her live performance with the orchestra. It will be broadcast live via bbc.co.uk/bbcsso on Thursday 19 October at 7.30pm, and will be available for 30 days following its broadcast.
From across the Atlantic, two composers respond to music around them: Joan Tower鈥檚 fanfare restores the gender balance of Copland鈥檚 celebrated work - and is probably twice as much fun. John Adams meanwhile took inspiration from the burgeoning Minimalist movement to find his own voice in a solid-gold modern classic. And Schumann鈥檚 sprightly Second Symphony, written over a century earlier, proves that youthful dynamism and driving rhythms have never been out of fashion.
