Classics with NOW: Grieg, 'Holberg Suite'
Grieg wrote his Holberg Suite, or 鈥楩rom Holberg鈥檚 Time 鈥� Suite in the Olden Style鈥� in 1884 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth playwright Ludvig Holberg. Originally composed for piano, Grieg went on to transcribe the suite for orchestra after it was well received at the Bergen Holberg celebration in December 1884.
The suite has five movements based on 18th century dance forms with different moods 鈥� some sprightly and exuberant, others more contemplative and dignified.
This performance by 麻豆官网首页入口 NOW took place in St David鈥檚 Hall in 2015, with Conductor Laureate Tadaaki Otaka.
