At the age of 8, Zara moved to Pakistan and started her formal musical training under Ustad Akhtar Ali Khan Sahib.

She went back to Bhopal for a year when she was 16 to study music. Whilst there, she took guidance from the Gundecha Brothers of the Dhrupad Academy.

Back in Pakistan, she landed the title track from the soundtrack to one of the country's most successful movies ‘Khuda Ke Liye’ produced by Rohail Hyatt.

Hyatt was the man behind Pakistan's biggest music show, Coke Studio, and promptly offered her a position on Season 6 of the show.

Since then, her role within the show has expanded, with her becoming an Assistant Producer and returning with a solo performance in Coke Studio 2020.
