Baroness Shafik: My anti-populist manifesto
Populist politicians are proposing the wrong solutions to the problems of people feeling left behind or alienated, the director of the London School of Economics Baroness Minouche Shafik has said.
The former deputy governor of the Bank of England told Hardtalk's Stephen Sackur that her latest book was like an "anti-populist manifesto".
She said the solutions proposed by populists were saying "let's all be selfish," but she added: "I think we would be much better off if we looked at a set of solutions which said how can we guarantee everyone a minimum for a decent life, how can we invest more in each other so that we all get a chance to thrive."
