Andrew's often asked how it's possible for his Mum - who has advanced dementia - to continue living in her own home. In large part it's down to wonderful people: carers, social workers, council and health staff, neighbours. But technology also plays a key role, which is great until the system develops a fault! This week Andrew talks about the shock of getting an evening call from a stranger, in Mum's house, checking that she's OK after one of her alarms went off. He lives 90 minutes away, but is still able to keep an eye on her. For this he uses a combination of cameras, infra-red beams and alarms round her neck, as well as on the reclining chair and bed where she now spends the majority of her life.
