One of Canada's most successful amateur boxers, Mandy Bujold has accused the International Olympic Committee of discriminating against women, and is mounting a legal challenge at the court of arbitration for sport to allow her to compete at the Tokyo Olympics.

Mandy Bujold who was a quarter finalist at the Rio in 2016 had been hoping to end her career in Tokyo.

But a change in the qualifying process again due to the Covid pandemic means she may miss out.

Bujold told our reporter Ade Adedoyin, the IOC鈥檚 refusal to take her ranking prior to being pregnant into consideration is tantamount to discrimination.

IOC Statement: 鈥淭he determination of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic boxing qualification system is a consistent process which applies to all athletes across all continents. Any modification would potentially not only impact individual situations but also entail consequences for possibly many other athletes. The IOC further recalls that the determination of the boxing qualification system is based on transparent and non-discriminatory qualification principles.
The qualification system, and any changes thereto, have been communicated in a timely manner to all concerned stakeholders.鈥�
