The MUAs are booked to create looks for the dancers in Jonas Blue’s new music video. In Glow Up Studios, the MUAs create looks inspired by a ‘Guilty Pleasure’.

It’s the semi-final, and for their Professional Assignment the four remaining MUAs are booked by superstar DJ and producer Jonas Blue to do the make-up looks for the backing dancers in his new music video, Something Stupid. Filmed in a large LED cube, the MUAs' make-up looks will need to complement different backdrops. This assignment is a huge opportunity for the MUAs, as their work will be viewed by millions when the video is released to Jonas Blue’s global fanbase! Joining Val and Dominic this week as guest judge and director of the music video is Rankin.

Working to Rankin’s exacting standards, the MUAs have just one and a half hours to design and create bold looks which complement their allocated backdrop and fit with Jonas Blue’s video brief of ‘bringing the club vibe’. The dancers' make-up will then be scrutinised under the lights on set by Rankin and Jonas to see whether they have hit the brief and fit Rankin’s creative vision, otherwise they’ll be asked to revise their look. Filmed in just one day, the shooting of the video follows a strict schedule, so any make-up mishaps need to be rectified quickly otherwise the whole day can be thrown off track.

The next day, the MUAs gather at Glow Up Studios to find out which two were judged to have created the weakest looks for the music video. They both start the day in the red Face Off chairs with a 15-minute time penalty in the Creative Brief. For these two MUAs, the only way to escape the Face Off elimination at the end of the day is to wow the judges in the Creative Brief so they beat the seat, meaning another MUA will need to take their place.

Staying in the online world for this week’s Creative Brief, the MUAs are challenged to create a look inspired by a ‘Guilty Pleasure’. The judges want the MUAs to create looks that are bold and imaginative.

One MUA struggles with their colour application, while another battles with symmetry, and risks are taken with a look using only two colours.

The judges deliberate over which two MUAs have produced the weakest looks before revealing who will go head-to-head in the Face Off elimination, a make-up skill drill under intense time pressure. The MUA who least impresses packs up their make-up kit and leaves the competition.
