Regional tensions over Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam
There鈥檚 been intensified diplomatic activity in recent weeks as the government of Ethiopia continues to build a huge new hydro-electric dam on the Blue Nile - despite complaints from Sudan and Egypt. The governments in Cairo and Khartoum say they need a new international agreement to control the waters of the Nile - and they鈥檝e turned to the new US administration for support. President Biden has discussed the issue with his Egyptian counterpart, General Abda-al-Fatah al-Sisi, and he鈥檚 appointed a new envoy who鈥檚 already been on a regional tour. Fergus Nicoll reports on a project that鈥檚 raised anxieties about a new 鈥渨ater war鈥 in the Horn of Africa.
