The Specials' Terry Hall on Coventry and mental health battles

They were the definitive Coventry band whose politically sharp lyrics and message of racial unity was set against a backdrop of mass unemployment and National Front demonstrations. The Specials, with their mix of ska, reggae and punk, opened up the possibility of a different kind of Britain to a new generation; a Britain that was proudly multi-cultural and wide open to the world. It's 40 years this month since their iconic Ghost Town was released - and Terry Hall, the band's frontman, is back in his home city - this year's UK City of Culture - to curate a festival of live music.
