The British Billionaire Richard Branson has named the date he intends to fly to the edge of space: the 11th of July or very soon after.

If successful, he'll beat his fellow billionaire, Amazon chief Jeff Bezos, who previously announced he'll board his sub-orbital spacecraft for a flight a few days later - on the 20th of July.

Both men plan commercial flights for space tourists... but only rich ones who can afford a price tag of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

"It's certainly been a lightning bolt in the space community. It had been rumoured for some time that he was going to try this, but to see one billionaire racing another to get across the finishing line into space it was really quite something to see."
