A busy opening day for team GB saw Helen Glover and Polly Swann in rowing action whilst the women鈥檚 footballers beat Japan 1-0 to ensure qualification for the quarter finals.
In the pool, Adam Peaty sauntered to victory in his qualifying heat in the men鈥檚 100 metre breaststroke, and in tennis Andy Murray and Joe Salisbury won their doubles match, but there was heartbreak for Heather Watson as she lost her singles match.
Elsewhere, Geraint Thomas was forced to withdraw from the men鈥檚 cycling Road Race with teammate Adam Yates finishing 9th.
