Baby 'lost' at Kabul airport during evacuation reunited with family
A baby boy separated from his family in the chaos of the US evacuation of Afghanistan as they fled the city in August has finally been reunited with them. Two-month-old Sohail Ahmadi was handed to an American soldier over a fence, to protect him from the crush as thousands pushed to get into Kabul airport. In the rush, he could not be found, and his parents and siblings boarded their flight to the US. He has now been traced to the home of a 29-year-old taxi driver named Hamid Safi, who found him in the airport, and has been handed over to his grandfather.
Gabriel Gatehouse recounts the story. He says that the taxi driver has been reluctant to hand Sohail back, but has now agreed, and Sohail is in the care of his grandparents.
