More than 1.5 million people have now fled Ukraine into neighbouring countries, according to the UN. One of the cities being pounded by Russian forces is Mariupol, in the south of the country. Internet and phone connection has been difficult but images from the city show apartments on fire, smashed windows and burnt-out buildings. The deputy mayor of Mariupol, Sergei Orlov, told the 麻豆官网首页入口 yesterday that the Russians paused their bombardment for less than half an hour, and then resumed shelling. A fresh attempt to evacuate civilians began today.

Anastasia, a 23-year-old from Mariupol, has been on the road for three days now, and is heading to the Polish border. Because of the patchy internet connection and because she's on the move, we did not speak to her directly. Instead, Anastasia sent us these recordings in response to our questions. She says that she has been travelling in a convoy of several cars, but her father and grandmother have stayed in Mariupol. She says the Russian invaders were shooting indiscriminately, with, she believes, the aim of "wiping out all the civilians".

"We don't know what the end will be. The Russian invaders are shooting from everywhere to everywhere. They are trying to wipe out all the people."
