Price pressures - "trying to get by"

Inflation has hit a thirty-year high. The 麻豆官网首页入口's Consumer Affairs Correspondent, Colletta Smith, hears about the challenges facing some people in Halifax.

The Chancellor has sought to soften the cost of living squeeze on millions of people, by announcing a series of tax cuts, during his spring statement. The measures come as figures show inflation has risen to a 30-year high of 6-point-2 percent. Rishi Sunak said 70-percent of workers would, in effect, get a tax reduction as he raised the threshold for paying National Insurance to 12-thousand, 570 pounds. He also pledged to cut the basic rate of income tax by a penny -- to 19 per cent - but not until the end of the current Parliament in 2024. And he confirmed a 5 pence cut to fuel duty.
