New technology being trialled in England is revolutionising the way people with type 1 diabetes manage their condition. We learn how it works - and hear two people's experiences.
Nearly 900 patients with type 1 diabetes in England are testing a new way to manage their condition. Described as a "game changer" by doctors, it can eliminate the need for finger prick tests and prevent life-threatening hypoglycaemic attacks.
The technology, which is called a hybrid closed loop system, uses a sensor under the skin. It continually monitors blood sugar levels, and a pump automatically adjusts the amount of insulin required.
For 5 Minutes On, the 麻豆官网首页入口's medical editor - Fergus Walsh - talks to Ange Abbott, whose six-year-old daughter - Charlotte - is one of those taking part in the trial, and Yasmin Hopkins, who's been struggling to control her type 1 diabetes for 15 years. Both say the new treatment has transformed their lives.
