Andrew has a heart-warming moment with his Mum. She has late stage mixed dementia - Alzheimer's and vascular - and rarely speaks. However the morning carers report that Carolyn said 'please' and 'thank you' when they offered her breakfast. Her son arrives soon afterwards to find her deep asleep. But, at lunchtime, the same happens again. Mum was always a great believer in good manners, and - deep down - they're still there. After she's eaten an entire tin of soup, Andrew tells her the week's family news, shows her some photos and they listen to a record before she falls asleep.
