Hundreds of palm-oil farmers have been protesting outside the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Jakarta, Indonesia.聽 They are demanding that the Indonesian government end an export ban that has cut their incomes dramatically. Indonesia, the world's top palm oil exporter, halted shipments of crude palm oil and some of its derivative products last month to control soaring prices of domestic cooking oil.

Djono Albar Burhan, a palm oil farmer in Indonesia, says he is one of 2.6 million small holder farmers in Indonesia, and they will be facing real poverty if the ban continues. He believes that situation could be improved if the government lifted the export ban, and instead, subsidised the cooking oil price for domestic consumers.

"How can we pay [our families], how can we buy fertilister, if we don't have the money?"
