Fuel over food: The struggles of rural poverty
Food bank volunteers say their fuel bills have trebled from £50 to £150 with the soaring cost of fuel.
Unable to afford to deliver food parcels, the hungry have to walk miles along narrow roads to get their essential weekly shop.
Many people face tough decisions between feeding themselves or their children if they are unable to get the food they need.
Government research suggests 78% of trips made by those living in villages in England are made by car compared with 61% of the country as a whole, making journey's without a vehicle now taking hours.
